Moisturize your hair for less | A DARK AND LOVELY AU NATURALE REVIEW

Moisturization of 4c afro type hair is one very important part of growing beautiful, long and healthy hair. Our hair is naturally very dry and hence we must hook it up with some moisture supplements. Moisturized hair tends to be stronger and less prone to breakage.

With so many people joining the natural hair scene as opposed to using relaxers for ‘beautiful hair’, you might think we would fall short on quality products to take care of our hair.

However, more products are being brought to the market to support our type of hair. So, there is a wide variety to choose from. Most of them work very well too.

…problem is, most of them are also very expensive!

I am very well aware of that hence why I was so ecstatic to find a product from DARK AND LOVELY that presented a little less damage to the wallet.

AU NATURALE!

Of course, I was a little skeptical.  What could they have compromised on to make this product less pricey? None the less I picked up two products to try out.

The first product I picked was their plaiting cream. (AU NATURALE plaiting pudding cream)

This product is the truth! I use it for plaiting my hair (uhm... Yeah genius, it’s in the name! ), be it braids, twist, cornrows you name it.

It is pink in colour and has a thick creamy yogurt-kind-of-like consistency.

This product helps keep hair soft and moisturized while plaited. This means reduced hair breakage and snagging caused by dry brittle hair.

Every time I take down my hair, it feels soft and moisturized. I absolutely LOVE this product and would recommend it for keeping your hair moisturized while it is plaited.

I have yet to find out the cons of using this product.

The other product I bought was their moisturizing butter. (AU NATURALE afro moisturizing butter)

This product is amazing with moisturization. The results are a visibly soft, fluffy and manageable afro!

To get that soft, fluffy look I spritz some water on my hair, enough so I can finger detangle with no struggle. I then apply the butter to seal in the moisture from the water and continue detangling with an afro pick.

If I’m going to sleep I twist my hair then wrap it up… or just tie in a low ponytail (because let’s face it, it is impossible to twist your hair up every day!).

If I’m going out, I style it or just rock the ‘big hair’ look! Anything that works! See how to manage your afro: the daily routine.

These products quickly became my staples! Any product that is able to nurture my afro is a good product, but an affordable product that does the same is the best!

How to create a hair care routine for short natural hair

“If my hair is short, I do not need to take care of it.”  WRONG! You always need to take care of your hair, even at its infancy. Think of taking care of your hair as a lifestyle rather than a stage you need to go through in order to grow your hair. The good news is, taking care of short hair is way easier compared to taking care of long hair.  In fact, it hardly feels like a routine at all because you won't need to do a lot to you hair. Let’s discuss a little about hair care routine. Note: this article is about pre-TWA length hair.  The stage where your hair is so small, all you can do is pat your it. What is a hair care routine? A hair care routine ( or regimen) is created to ensure consistent efforts to take care of your hair.  It would be something that repeats in a chosen time interval, e.g. every five days or every month.  There are some aspects of a hair care routine that must be done daily.  It is all up to you though, you must pay attention to your hair and us

Exploring Cenotes in Mexico

Ever heard of a Cenote?    I had never heard of it until recently when I watched an episode of Expedition unknown where Josh Gates went to Mexico to investigate the Mayan apocalypse.    It's alright you do not have to know about Expedition unknown. It’s too science-y... and exploration-y... and history-y. Which spells out fun for me, but, believe it or not, I’ve learned it’s not the same for everyone. What are Cenotes?   Cenotes are deep pits or sinkholes fed by the filtration of rain and currents of underground rivers that are born in the heart of the earth. The term Cenote has also been used to describe some similar karst features in Cuba and Australia. But Cenotes are prevalent and most awe-inspiring in the Yucatan peninsula, Mexico.   The Yucatan peninsula separates the Gulf of Mexico from the Caribbean Sea.   Never mind that my only experience with Cenotes was from a comfy sofa with some popcorn and a TV screen, they still looked amazing enough for me to put them on my buc
